Privacy Policy

Introduction

The ANU Medical Students’ Society (ANUMSS) and its subcommittees are committed to interacting with members and other associated people with respect to their personal privacy.

Definition of Personal Information

Personal information is information or an opinion that identifies an individual. Examples of personal information that may be collected include:

  • Full names,
  • Email addresses,
  • Mobile phone numbers,
  • Australian National University student numbers,
  • Expected year of graduation from the Australian National University Medical School, and
  • Attendance at ANU Medical Students’ Society events.

We may collect other personal information from time to time.

Collection of Personal Information

Personal information may be collected in the following ways, including but not limited to:

  • When an order is submitted through the online store for membership, merchandise, or event ticket sales,
  • When a form is submitted on the website,
  • When a form is submitted on Google Workspace,
  • When personal information is sent directly to a committee member, and
  • During communication with the Society.

We collect personal information for the primary purpose of providing our services in alignment with our mission. We may also use personal information for secondary purposes closely related to the primary purpose in circumstances where it would be reasonably expected.

When we collect personal information, it will generally be evident why we are collecting it.

Sensitive Information

Sensitive information is defined in this policy to include information or opinion about such things as an individual’s racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, membership of a political association, religious or philosophical beliefs, membership of a trade union or other professional body, criminal record, or other health information.

We will not collect sensitive information.

Disclosure of Personal Information

Personal information may be disclosed in two ways. These are:

  • To third parties, where you consent to the disclosure, and
  • Where required by law.

Security of Personal Information

Personal information is stored in a manner that reasonably protects it from misuse, loss, or unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

Access to Personal Information

You may access the personal information that we hold about you by contacting us in writing. We will not charge any fee for your access request, unless responding to the request would in the judgement of the Society impose an unreasonable cost burden on the Society. To protect your personal information, we may require identification from you before releasing the requested personal information.

A member of the Society may request restriction of access to their personal information as provided for in the Associations Incorporation Act 1991 (ACT).

Maintaining the Quality of Personal Information

It is important to us that your personal information remains up to date. We will take reasonable steps to make sure that your personal information is accurate and complete. If you find that the information we have is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date, please advise us as soon as practicable so that we can update our records.

Policy Updates

The Society may at its discretion change this Privacy Policy from time to time, and any changes will be made available on our website.
